Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.

The Opportunity

Marbles is looking for an energetic and dependable Event Host to help create memorable experiences for our guests! The Event Host is responsible for the execution of facility rentals and internal events including working directly with clients during events, executing facility rental events, providing oversight of the building after-hours, and reporting operational matters to the Event Coordinator. This position plays a unique role in the organization by representing Marbles during a wide variety of events, meetings and celebrations.

Job Responsibilities  

  • Provide day-of event management including but, not limited to preparing the event space, working with porters on table and chair arrangement, briefing security personnel on event details, and coordinating the changeover from museum operations.
  • Provide an exceptional guest experience that is aligned with Marbles customer service procedures.
  • Monitor set up by all vendors such as caterers, entertainment, and rental equipment.
  • Assure all event details are implemented as promised to the client and assist throughout the event as needed.
  • Oversee security staff during the event to make sure exhibits and museum is protected and used appropriately by the client.
  • Oversee breakdown of event to ensure event items are properly stored and the museum is reset for operation.
  • Provide a final report of event details noting any concerns or follow-up needed.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.

Ideal Experience and Skills

  • 1 year of customer service experience, particularly with families and young children (preferred).
  • Calm under pressure, patient, and able to communicate to clients mindfully and directly.
  • Prior event experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands 

  • Walking, lifting, standing for extended periods, sitting, and bending motions.
  • May be required to move facility rental equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Conditions sometimes involve low light, flashing lights, and loud noises.
  • Occasional hot or cold outdoor environments.
  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Schedule

  • Flexible schedule required, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Additional availability required during Marbles event season (October-January)
